What is Moodz?
Moodz is a character-driven emotional wellness brand based in Portsmouth, United Kingdom. It uses original illustrated characters — each representing a different emotion — to help people understand, track, and talk about how they feel.
The brand was created by Charlotte and Frank as a two-person team. Charlotte leads design and creative direction, while Frank handles product development, strategy, and business development. Moodz operates across multiple formats including a mobile app, physical collectibles, a trading card game, comics, music videos, and digital gaming experiences.
Quick Facts
The Characters
Moodz features 25 original illustrated characters, each representing a distinct emotion. Every character has its own name, personality, hoodie colour, and visual identity. The core nine characters are:
- Happy — Sunny & Bright
- Excited — Buzzing with energy
- Chill — Relaxed and laid-back
- Love — Warm & Fuzzy
- Bored — Restless
- Sad — Rainy
- Angry — Fired Up
- Tired — Worn Out
- Anxious — On Edge
The characters use a hoodie-wearing design style with expressive faces. Users select which character matches their current mood rather than rating emotions on a numerical scale, making the process of identifying feelings intuitive rather than analytical.
The App
The Moodz app is a free mood tracking and journaling tool available on iOS and Android. Core features include:
- Mood logging — select a character that matches your current emotion
- Journaling — a private space to write about your day
- Streaks, coins, and XP — gamification to encourage daily tracking
- Hoodie Shop and Theme Shop — customise your character's appearance
- Weekly insights — see mood patterns over time
- Skin tone character variants — included free
- PIN lock — keep your journal private

- Weather mood prompts
Moodz Pro is available for £2.99 per month and adds additional journaling prompts, extended mood insights, exclusive themes, and priority access to new features.
Privacy
Moodz is built privacy-first. The app does not collect, store, or sell any personal data. All mood logs and journal entries are stored locally on the user's device and are never transmitted to external servers. The app contains no advertising and no third-party trackers.
For analytics, Moodz uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first analytics platform that provides aggregate usage data (such as total app opens) without collecting any personal information, user identifiers, or device fingerprints.
The Moodz Ecosystem
Moodz positions itself as a character IP brand rather than solely a technology product. Beyond the app, the ecosystem includes:
- Blind box collectibles — physical character figures in surprise packaging
- Trading card game — a strategy game where emotion characters battle, combine, and evolve
- Comics and animations — short stories featuring the Moodz characters
- Music videos — original animated content for each character
- Roblox — Mood Match Adventure, an immersive game with three worlds
How Moodz Differs from Other Mood Trackers
Moodz differentiates itself from existing mood tracking apps in three primary ways:
Character-based identification. Rather than asking users to rate their mood on a scale of 1-10 or select from text labels, Moodz presents illustrated characters with distinct personalities. This makes the process of identifying emotions visual and intuitive.
Complete privacy. Unlike most wellness apps that collect user data for analytics or advertising, Moodz stores all data locally on the device with zero data transmission. This is a deliberate design choice intended to encourage honest self-reflection.
Full brand ecosystem. Moodz is designed as a character IP that extends beyond a single app into physical products, games, comics, and digital experiences. The characters exist independently of the app and serve as a broader emotional literacy tool.
Moodz is available to download free on the App Store. For more information, visit moodz.xyz or follow Moodz on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
